FeSi is a member of the transition metal (TM) monosilicides. The crystal structure is isostructural from MnSi through to CoSi with magnetic properties that alter dramatically depending upon the TM in question. The lack of space inversion symmetry of the B20 phase causes interesting magnetic states through the non-cancellation of the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) anisotropic exchange . The DM interaction encourages nearest neighbour spins to be cantered by a small angle which can result in helical textures. It has been predicted that in such structures that ground states of magnetic skyrmions could form. Using polarised neutron reflectometry we wish to look for the signature of this novel ordering.
