The dataset below provides information about the microplastic contamination in the Kuril Kamchatka Trench in the NW Pacific Ocean. The samples were collected in summer 2016 during the Kurambio II expedition with RV Sonne. Each sample represents the first 5 cm of the sediment and the above sediment-water interface. The data table depicts the results of the analysis carried out on 8 Sediment samples, collected with a Multicorer (OKTOPUS GmbH, Kiel, Germany). The samples represent the first five cm of the deep seafloor at four sampling stations of the Kuril Kamchatka trench.
The first column provides the sample ID, followed by the label of the sampling event during the expedition SO250, the date and time of the sampling, the coordinates and depth. The abbreviations, listed below, mean the following:D.W [kg]: The amount of sediment sampled is reported in kilogram and refers to the dry weight.MP kg-1: The number of microplastic particles is reported as microplastic per Kg sediment.NPol kg-1: the number of polymers detected is reported as polymer type per Kg sediment. All the polymer types detected are reported in their full name and are reported as the number of particles per Kg sediment.
