Neutron Compton Scattering - augmented Muon Spin Rotation: from proton momentum distribution to muonium hyperfine coupling

DOI

This proposal seeks to pave the way towards establishing a reliable benchmarking protocol for the PIMD-based predictions of magnetic muSR observables. Inspired by the PIMD study of the acetone radical, we propose to measure isopropyl alcohol as a bulk material with a similar local environment around the OH. In order to achieve site specific measurement in an otherwise mass-selective neutron Compton scattering (NCS) technique, we propose to selectively deuterate the sample and obtain D momentum distribution in the deuterated OD bond. Following this, a simple harmonic mass-scaling by the ratio will be applied to obtain the predicted width of the Mu momentum distribution. Finally, the position distribution of Mu will be predicted from the inverse Fourier transform.
