The main aim of the project was to analyse the factors influencing trade unionism and politics in the Scots coalfields during the period 1874-1939. The objective of the census survey was to provide information on occupation, age, marital status and place of birth of mineworkers in ten localities which could be used in conjunction with a range of qualitative sources.

Main Topics:

Occupation, age, marital status and birthplace of mineworkers resident in the ten survey localities. Please note: this study does not include information on named individuals and would therefore not be useful for personal family history research.

No sampling (total universe)

All mineworkers were surveyed in selected localities.
