Safe Use of Mobility Aid Checklist (SUMAC) for walker use in people living with dementia

DOI

The purpose of the dataset is to determine the reliability (through Intraclass Correlation Coefficient) of the SUMAC-NL, a Dutch-language measurement instrument that can evaluate walking ability with a walker in people with dementia. The SUMAC-NL consists of 9 everyday tasks that participants have to perform while walking with a walker. The SUMAC-NL can be used to evaluate the success of training to use a walker when the walker has been identified as an appropriate level of gait aid to compensate for deficits or evaluating people who have been using a walker already independently.

The dataset captured the scores of 9 participants on the SUMAC-NL. These scores were administered at two time points (T0 and T1) by 5 different physiotherapists. The same videos were used to score the participants at T0 and T1. There was a one-week interval between T0 and T1.

The SUMAC-NL consists of 9 tasks and each with its own score. In the dataset, all scores, from task 1 to task 9 were noted and a total score was recorded (the sum score of the 9 tasks). In addition, the dataset reflects the demographic data of the participants, as well as the scores on the FES-I and Katz ADL. The latter two give an indication of fall anxiety the functioning in ADL, respectively.
