The Doliolid microbiome (Dolioletta gegenbauri)

This study characterized the associated-microbiome of the doliolid Dolioletta gegenbauri. Specifically, the microbiome of full (fed) and empty (starved) gut specimens, surrounding seawater, and fresh (2hrs) and aged (24hrs) fecal pellets produced/released by doliolids were characterized using 16rRNA metabarcoding. The findings of this work further advance our understanding of the ecological role of doliolids in pelagic systems.
