Swath sonar bathymetry during POLARSTERN cruise ANT-IV/4 (PS08) with links to multibeam raw data files

DOI

Multibeam data were collected during R/V Polarstern cruise ANT-IV/4. Data recording was executed on transit from Cape Town to Mandela Fracture Zone, Maud Rise and Punta Arenas and was supervised by one hydrographer. Data are unprocessed and may contain outliers and blunders. Therefore the data should not directly be used for grid calculations and charting projects but need to be edited furthermore. One file normally contains a measurement period of one day. The dataset consists of 40 files in originally Seabeam binary multibeam format (.geo) and additionally of 40 files converted into a more common Seabeam format (.mb14). Both datasets are compressed with GZIP to size of 25.2 MB. Seabeam data files (*.mb14) can be processed using the open source software package MB-System (http://www.ldeo.columbia.edu/res/pi/MB-System/) or the software package CARAIBES from IFREMER.For overview images and shape files of the track see doi:10.1594/PANGAEA.758996, the results of the multibeam survey (phi, lambda, depth) can be found at doi:10.1594/PANGAEA.759011. !!!UPDATE 2025-02-24: The dataset is based on faulty navigation data and is shifted from its actual location. A new version will be uploaded once the problem is solved. In the meantime, please avoid using this dataset.!!!
