Théâtre Instant Présent is an artistic and political project initiated in 2005 and has since been actively engaged in various activities across France. The group’s primary objective is to promote theatrical engagement for people from all walks of life, encompassing professionals and amateurs, focusing on those often distanced from cultural institutions. Consequently, the company offers a range of programs and initiatives, including: 1. Productions featuring individuals in situations of disability, exclusion, or illness. 2. Training opportunities for professionals, such as social workers and psychologists, who aim to incorporate drama workshops into social, medical-social, or healthcare settings. 3. Acting workshops for professionals from various artistic disciplines, including actors, singers, and dancers. 4. Workshops designed for amateur participants. The artistic creations at Théâtre Instant Présent are grounded in improvisation and the clown figure. The theatre aims to connect with reality, emphasizing sensitivity, poetic expression, and humour. Productions featuring marginalized individuals, social workers, and actors represent a fusion of artistic, social, and communal approaches. Collaborating with individuals facing disabilities, exclusion, or illness allows those who have been silenced or unable to communicate to express their unique experiences and perspectives on the world, sharing them with the audience, which results in both personal and collective emancipation. This emancipation is an individual journey, as acting allows individuals to explore new emotions, sensations, and thoughts, breaking free from potentially alienating existences. Amateur actors regain control of their place and voice within society. Language, voice, words, movement, stage presence, and active listening all play a supportive role in this process. Collective emancipation occurs through the staging of improvisations that take place during workshops. The artistic project intertwines theatre with reality, addressing specific challenges participants face (e.g., disability, exclusion, unemployment) and universal themes (e.g., love, solidarity, difference, sexuality). These productions prompt inquiries into the concept of living together, reflecting a noble understanding of politics: How do we coexist harmoniously? The emancipatory dimension extends to the audience, offering a fresh perspective on individuals occasionally perceived as “the others.” The theatrical representation encourages critical thinking, fosters sharing, encourages empathy, facilitates dialogue, and enables self-expression. In addition to its commitment to social theatre, Théâtre Instant Présent aims to cultivate the development of social theatre facilitators, potentially allowing the establishment of workshops for marginalized individuals facing disabilities, thereby making theatre practice accessible to all.
