Multibeam bathymetry raw data (Atlas Hydrosweep DS 3 echo sounder entire dataset) of RV POLARSTERN during cruise ANT-XXVIII/1 (PS79)

DOI

Multibeam data were collected during RV Polarstern cruise ANT-XXVIII/1. Data are unprocessed and may contain outliers and blunders. Therefore the data should not directly be used for grid calculations and charting projects but need to be edited furthermore. The dataset consists of files in HYPACK ASCII rawdata format (.HSX + .RAW). HYPACK data files can be processed using the software packages CARIS HIPS/SIPS or with the open source software package MB-System (Caress et al., MB-System: Mapping the Seafloor,http://www.mbari.org/products/research-software/mb-system/ 2021).Data were recorded during transit and not continuously monitored during acquisition. However, data were primarily acquired to test the performance of the new upgrade of the Atlas Hydrosweep DS 3 echo sounder system and development of the system. Therefore data quality may differ due to different settings of the system during the survey. This dataset contains data from the newly discovered Gierloff-Emden Seamount.Ancillary sound velocity profiles (SVP) for data calibration are part of this dataset publication.

These data should not be used for navigational purposes.Data were provided to PANGAEA by Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research personnel (contact: infobathy@awi.de).
