High resilience to sudden dilution of microbial halophilic communities thriving in solar salterns

The osmotic shock effect on the microbial assemblages thriving in crystallizer solar salters has been assessed by mesocosms experimental setup, where the brines was diluted to 2.5-fold lower levels of salinity. Moreover, the vertical flux of microorganisms between brines and sediments was assessed waterproofing the sediment with a plastic mesh.
