Oxygen kinetic energy and momentum distribution in light and heavy water across the triple point

DOI

In our previous experiment, RB1120106 (see the experimental report in the database), we have successfully isolated the oxygen Compton profile in heavy water. The kinetic energy is approximately 28 meV above the classical expectation, also suggesting a remarkable isotopic dependence. The planned complementary measurement on light water failed due to saturation of the backscattering detector bank. In order to ascertain the (H-D) isotopic dependence on the oxygen kinetic energy in water we propose a continuation experiment with a specifically prepared sample-container configuration.
