Many regulators of secondary metabolism in filamentous fungi have been shown to regulate the expression of highly divergent and sometimes species-specific secondary metabolic pathways in related fungi. Two such regulators are the light-responsive master regulator VeA and the more recently identified veA¬-interacting regulator MtfA. Here, we sequenced the transcriptome of wild-type, ?veA, and ?mtfA Aspergillus fumigatus and Aspergillus nidulans to determine the impacts these regulators have on gene expression in both species.
