Ga2-xFexO3 (GFO) is a ferrimagnetic magnetoelectric material presenting a Curie temperature above room temperature for x>1.3. It is therefore an interesting candidate for the realization of magnetoelectric memories ME-RAMs. We have performed coupled SQUID magnetometry and XMCD measurements on GFO thin films and evidenced a coinciding minimum in the magnitudes of Hc and ML. A similar behaviour is described in the literature for the isostructural compound epsilon-Fe2O3, and explained by a lattice distortion accompanying a commensurate to incommensurate magnetic transition. This transition has however never been evidenced in bulk for GFO. We therefore wish to perform a coupled neutron diffraction and 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy study of the magnetic structure of 57Fe-enriched GFO thin films in order to determine whether GFO thin films present a lattice distortion driven magnetic transition.
