A dataset containing quality controlled wind observations from 181 different tall towers has been created. Wind speed and wind direction measurements have been collected from existing tall towers around the world within the context of the INDECIS project in an effort to boost the utilisation of these non-standard atmospheric datasets. Wind observations taken at several heights greater than 10 meters above ground level have been retrieved from various sparse datasets and compiled in a unique collection with a common format, access, documentation and quality control. For the latter, a total of 18 Quality Control checks have been considered to ensure a high quality of the wind observations. Non-quality-controlled temperature, relative humidity and barometric pressure data have been also obtained and made available. Complete information on the collection and quality control processes can be found in the following publication: https://essd.copernicus.org/articles/12/429/2020/

Updates from the previous version: Added more information (i.e., 'Measuring levels', 'Sampling' and 'Top sensor') to the 0-INDEX_public.csv file.
Updates from the previous version: Changed five Tower Names in the 0-INDEX_public.csv file as they were not following the file-name conventions (i.e., the *.csv file name is the Tower Name from the 0-INDEX_public.csv file in lower case and with spaces replaced by underscores).
