The uploaded datasets are based on my PhD thesis titled ?RETRIEVAL OF SOIL PHYSICAL PROPERTIES: FIELD INVESTIGATIONS, MICROWAVE REMOTE SENSING AND DATA ASSIMILATION? (2021). The thesis aims to improve our understanding of soil physical property retrieval by using a data assimilation (DA) system that includes a land surface model (LSM) acted as a system operator and a microwave emission model as a measurement operator. To validate the retrieved results and analyze basic soil properties and soil hydraulic properties (SHP) and thermal properties (STPs) for accurate land surface modeling on the Tibetan Plateau (TP), we conducted in situ and laboratory measurements of soil physical property profiles across different climate zones of the TP. With these collected profiles on the arid (Ngari), semi-arid (Naqu) and sub-humid (Maqu) zones, we compiled the Tibet-Obs soil property dataset. We hope that the compiled dataset and our findings contribute to modeling and research of the Third Pole environment in the hydro-climatology community, and fill geographic gaps amidst the already published global soil databases by the soil community.To investigate the effect of topsoil structures and inhomogeneous moisture distribution in the soil volume on L-band radiation and to do the following soil physical property retrieval, we employed comprehensive field observations at the Maqu site (33.91?N, 102.16?E) on the eastern TP. The supporting data includes ELBARA-III L-band brightness temperature, profile soil moisture and soil temperature, turbulent heat fluxes, meteorological data and vegetation data.
