The aim was to collect information about the audience attending the theatre over a complete season. Discovery, not hypothesis testing, was the keynote. The second survey (SN:189) complemented and extended the first and set it in an overall context of entertainment and media-usage.

Attitudinal/Behavioural Questions: Number of other people accompanying respondent to the theatre, price of seat, method of booking, source of information about theatre-going, whether respondent attended regularly on a particular night of the week, plays seen during previous season, whether any play at the Victoria Theatre was seen more than once, which play seen most often, other theatre performances attended in last 12 months, type of performance. Opinion of theatre, suggestions of facilities which would add most to a theatre visit, suggestions of titles of books/plays respondent would like the Victoria Theatre to produce, likes and dislikes about the Victoria Theatre's presentation of plays. Whether respondent read a review of the play before attendance, and whether they influenced attendance. Background Variables: Age, sex, marital status, education, attendance at organised classes, occupation, place of residence, type of transport taken to theatre.
