Recently the coexistence of superconductivity (SC) and antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordering has been reported in CeNi0.8Bi2 with TSC = 4.2 K and TN =5 K, which crystallises in the tetragonal crystal structure similar to newly discovered RFeAsO (R=rare earths) superconductors. The SC in CeNi0.8Bi2 is induced by the deficiency of Ni-atom as the SC in the iron-based superconductors is induced by oxygen-deficiency. Some of us have shown that study of CEF excitations in CeFeAs(OF) gives valuable information on the role of magnetism on the SC. Considering the importance of coexistence of SC and AFM in HFSC and Fe-based superconductors, it is important to investigate the spin dynamics of CeNi0.8Bi2 to get more insight into the origin of SC. We therefore propose to carry out inelastic neutron scattering (INS) measurements to investigate CEF excitations and phonon density of across TSC.
