Magnetic field induced phase transition in two dimensional triangular lattice NaVX2

We propose to conduct an inelastic scattering study on NaVS2 and NaVSe2 in zero magnetic field on the MARI spectrometer. These compounds form triangular lattices which are similar to the structure of NaMnO2 found to display a reduced dimensionality of the spin interactions in the presence of lattice imposed (or geometrical) frustration. Using the MARI spectrometer, we will investigate the magnetic field dependence of the magnetic fluctuations with the aim of understanding the underlying magnetic interactions and relationship to the structure of these compounds.
