18kHz primary high frequency (PHF) and 4 kHz secondary low frequency (SLF) Parasound profiles during RV MARIA S. MERIAN cruise MSM107

DOI

18kHz primary high frequency and 4 kHz secondary low frequency Parasound profiles were collected during RV MARIA S. MERIAN cruise MSM107. The hull-mounted, parametric PARASOUND P70 Echosounder (Teledyne RESON) was employed in 24-hour watch schedule without interruption. The transmission beam angle of the PARASOUND P70 is extremely narrow with only 4.5° leading to a footprint size of 7% of the water depth only. The software ATLAS PARASTORE was used for displaying and storing echograms, while the program ATLAS Hydromap Control (AHC) transmits the hydroacoustic settings during acquisition and transfers data from the acquisition unit. The PHF and SLF data were stored as PS3 format with different window lengths and then converted into SGY format with the custom-made program ps32sgy from the University of Bremen (Hanno Keil, working group Marine Technologies/Environmental Research). The visualized profiles were performed in The Kingdom Software 2019TM (IHS Markit).
