Compañía de Teatro y Danza El Tinglao

DOI

In 1993, Ángel Negro as well as David and Tomi Ojeda laid the foundation for the later formation of the ensemble El Tinglao. In its present form, it has existed since autumn 1995. The group includes artists with disabilities whose performance leads to new possibilities for the perception of art. The spectator is confronted with other bodies and other ways of thinking. Through the integration of different artistic disciplines, dynamic and innovative projects are implemented without descending into stereotypes. El Tinglao describes itself as an artistic collective that builds bridges by using art and creativity as a means of raising social awareness. The productions, training workshops, and teaching as well as the exchange with other institutions, offer new perspectives to the members of the ensemble, for example for their entry into the labour market. The collective summarizes its maxim in the following two formulas: - Capacidad Para Actuar y Bailar = Deseo de Hacerlo + Formación (Ability to act and dance = Desire to do so + Training) - Diversidad = Belleza (Diversity = Beauty) Since 1997, El Tinglao has been involved in international projects in Europe and Latin America and has collaborated, for example, with the French theatre group L'Oiseau Mouche and the Mexican collective La Manga. In addition, El Tinglao participated in the Festival Internacional Trabajo, Cultura y Discapacidad, the II Festival Internacional de Teatro y Danza in Lima, Peru, and the Festival Very Special Arts in São Paulo, Brazil. In 1999, the ensemble began to collaborate with the Proyecto Transatlántico. It includes artists, theatre groups, dramaturges, and pedagogues of the performing arts from Chile and Spain. In 2000, El Tinglao was awarded the Segundo Premio and the Premio Especial at the competition XIV Certamen Coreográfico de Madrid with the piece A piel de pies.
