Use of contraception and sexuality among women in Slovenia, 2011

DOI

The starting point of the research was to determine the presence of coitus interruptus as a form of contraception in Slovenia in two theoretical frames, ie. a medical view of the body and sexuality and a feminist critique of the medical discourse of contraception. The main objectives of the study were to research and define the role of the coitus interruptus in the construction of female and male sexuality, to find out its position in Slovenian sexual culture and from a feminist perspective assess its impact on the sexual reproductive health of women. The additional objective was to establish why despite many other methods of birth control, coitus interruptus is still advised and very commonly used and find out why Slovenian gynaecologists still promote it as a form of contraception. For this reason, 52 interviews with birth control users and 27 interviews with gynaecologists from Slovenia were conducted. Due to sensitivity of the data, only interviews with birth control users are available at the ADP.
