The Impact of Daily Stand-Up Meetings on Project Success & Team Dynamics

DOI

Daily Stand-Up Meetings (DSMs) are a core and widespread agile practice conducted to enhance team communication, coordination, and problem-solving. Yet, their impact on tangible and intangible team dimensions of project management remains insufficiently explored. This study examines how DSMs influence project success (tangible) and project team dynamics (intangible) in terms of psychological safety, team cohesion, and conflict management. Conducted in a Scrum-based software development environment, our quantitative analysis reveals that DSMs foster psychological safety and team cohesion, both of which are positively linked to project success. However, no direct or indirect influence of DSMs on project success was identified. Reflecting its limitations, this study provides the first, evidence-based step in understanding the impact of DSMs on tangible and intangible aspects of agile project management, and lays the foundation for future research on the effects of DSMs.
