Phosphate starvation response of two different clones of Asterionellopsis glacialis

Two A. glacialis clones were tested for its antimicrobial activity against MRSA (Methicillin resistant S. aureus) and MSSA (Methicillin sensitive S. aureus). Substantial differences were observed between clones and also between the two culturing conditions used (Control and phosphate starvation). Studies will be performed on the transcriptome to identify biosynthetic pathways involved in the production of antimicrobial metabolites that can explain the observed activity.
