Hourly data from an automatic weather station near Langenferner (Vedretta Lunga), a well studied mass balance glacier in the Ortler Alps, Autonomous Province of Bolzano - Südtirol, Italy. The dataset contains air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and direction, shortwave incoming (global) radiation and atmospheric air pressure measured at a near glacier site at an altitude of 2967 m a.s.l. over the period 25 October 2012 to 27 August 2015.
This station was situated on a rock close to Langenferner/Vedretta Lunga where mass balance observations have been carried out since the hydrological year 2004. The station was set up on October 8th, 2012 by Stephan P. Galos (ACINN - University of Innsbruck, Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics [IMGI] at that time)with the support of Anna Haberkorn (SLF/WSL) and Erik Bollmann (IGI). Installations were completed by S. Galos and Rainer Prinz on October 25th, 2012. Station design was made up of a single vertical mast stabilized and levelled by 3 steel wires fixed to bolts which had been drilled into the solid rock ground. Sensors were mounted on a single cross-arm. The station was run from October 25th, 2012 to August 27th, 2015 when it was replaced by a new station at the same location. No changes in station design were applied between October 25th, 2012 and August 27th, 2015.
