Spin waves in ferromagnetic YbNiSn

DOI

YbNiSn is a Yb analogue of ferromagnetic superconductors URhGe and UCoGe. All materials share the same crystal structure, have similar Curie temperatures and a similar metamagnetic transition at which the moment direction rotates. The first order metamagentic transitions may be driven to a quantum critical point by applying the field off-axis. For YbNiSn magnetic excitations are much sharper than in the U materials as revealed by neutron scattering and therefore better suited for studies to gain insight into the spin dynamics approaching the metamagnetic transition relevant to new state formation. The proposal will complete our study of this material in applied field by addressing the origin of a second metamagnetic transition and identifying whether the soft mode associated with moment rotation involves both ferromagnetic (FM) and Anti-FM components.
