The 627-year record spanning from 1370 to 1997 consists of annual Sr/Ca measurements obtained from a Diploastrea heliopora coral core (F14) extracted from Kanathea Island in the Fijian Archipelago. The 1.9 m coral core was collected in 1998 from a living coral colony living at a depth of 3 m from the surface at the time of collection. The Sr/Ca, used to reconstruct sea temperature, was obtained using inductively coupled plasma axial emission spectrometer (ICP-AES) at the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California.
