Simultaneous INS and Raman Spectroscopy of Hydrogen Bonded Single Component Organic Ferroelectrics

DOI

In this proposal I plan to investigate two similar types of single component ferroelectrics, CBDC and PhMDA, using simultaneous INS and Raman spectroscopy to understand the origin of their ferroelectricity through correlating their spectroscopic signatures. Another similar type of single component room temperature ferroelctric, croconic acid, already has been investigated by INS spectroscopy. Signature of two distinct types of hydrogen bonds has been found in INS spectrum of croconic acid. Similar type of signature is expected in CBDC and PhMDA. Simultaneous Raman will help to understand the C-C and C-O vibrations and related distortions with temperatures during ferroelctric phase changes. First principle DFT calculations will be done to analysis the spectroscopic data. I have requested 3 days beam time for this experiment for three different temperatures.
