The research topic is Green Low Surface Energy Materials (LSEMs), with the aim to develop new hydrocarbon (HC) architectures to replace environmentally hazardous fluorocarbon surfactants for Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) applications. The aim is to explore how mono and divalent cations (in ambient and reservoir conditions) affect the structural behavior of surfactants in aqueous solutions. The surfactants of interest are shown in Figure 1: the subtle structural modifications in the head and tail, feed through to significant effects on surface tension and critical micelle concentration. Analyses of tensiometric data (Table 1) indicate that the higher the salinity of the surfactants solution, the lower the CMC and surface tension.
