This study aimed to elucidate the composition of the microbiome associated with the precious red coral Corallium rubrum. The core microbiome was stable on a spatial scale of >1100 km and consisted of 12 bacterial species, in particular Spirochaetales. These data suggest a novel symbiotic association within the association.
