Field measurements of snow and ice thicknesses and freeboard on the landfast ice of the Atka Bay near the Ekström ice shelf in Antarctica in 2011, Version 1

Version 1, 2011-07-06. Please refer to the newest Version (see "Replaced by" reference). We measured sea-ice thickness, snow depth and freeboard by repeated drill-hole measurements (5-cm diameter augers) between June 2011 and January 2012 at six stations distributed evenly over a transect along Atka Bay. At each measurement location, 5 holes were drilled through the ice in order to determine the aforementioned parameters, one in the center and one in a distance of five meters in each direction, to cover their small-scale spatial variabilities.See also the related dataset for 2010: doi:10.1594/PANGAEA.762681
