Mediterranean sea plastisphere and mussels microbiome

In this study, floating environmental plastic particles (FP) from four Tunisian Mediterranean Sea sites were sampled and chemically identified and characterized. Subsequently, the biofilms on the FP and the seawater and from the intestinal microbiomes of exposed mussels from the studied areas were microbiologically analyzed through Illumina high throughput sequencing (HTS) of bacterial 16S DNA amplicons.
