Draft genome sequence of Dugong

Dugong is a large herbivore with a body and small head that resemble whales and is said to be a model of a "mermaid." It lives in the shallow, warm waters of the subtropical to tropical regions and mainly eats seaweed. In Japan, it slightly inhabits the coastal area of eastern Okinawa Island. We have sequenced DNA isolated from dead individuals muscle tissue.
