Der ifo Investitionstest für das Verarbeitende Gewerbe wird seit 1955 halbjährlich (im Frühjahr und im Herbst) vom ifo Institut erhoben. Kern des Fragenprogramms sind quantifizierte Angaben zu den Investitionen der jüngsten Vergangenheit, des laufenden Jahres und – im Herbst – auch des folgenden Jahres. Des Weiteren werden die Unternehmen zu ihren Investitionszielen befragt und einmal im Jahr – in der Herbsterhebung – werden sie gebeten, den Einfluss vorgegebener Faktoren (Auftragslage, Finanzierungsmöglichkeiten, Ertragslage usw.) auf Ihre Investitionstätigkeit zu beurteilen.

The ifo Investment Survey for Industry has been conducted by the ifo Institute on a bi-annual basis (spring and autumn) since 1955. The survey's core questions are designed to elicit quantified responses on companies' latest investments, on their investment plans for the ongoing year and, in autumn, on their investment plans for the year ahead. Companies are also asked about their investment goals, and in the autumn survey they are asked to assess the influence of specific factors (orders-in-hand, financing options, financial position etc.) on their investment activity.
