UAu2 has an exceedingly simple crystalline structure comprised of columns of U arranged in a triangular lattice, raising the prospect of magnetic frustration. There is a clear transition to a modulated incommensurate antiferromagnetic state at 43K. However quantum critical behaviour is then seen in the macroscopic properties below 20 K, well within the ordered state. Such behaviour is unprecedented. It is considered to be brought about by the frustration inherent in the triangular lattice preventing the squaring up of the modulation. A second transition then exists at 420 mK from the quantum critical state to a strongly correlated Fermi liquid like state. We would like to determine if this second transition is accompanied by a change in the magnetic structure and hence if the magnetic frustration is solely responsible for the measured quantum critical behaviour.
