Variations in gut microbiome in acute pancreatitis

Acute pancreatitis (AP) is an inflammatory condition of the pancreas. Alteration in gut microbiome profiles is frequently detected in inflammatory diseases including AP. This study was designed to identify gut microbiome biomarkers for discrimination of AP patients from healthy controls. We collected fecal samples from 34 AP patients and 20 age- and gender-matched healthy controls. High-throughput 16S rRNA sequencing was performed to analyze gut microbiome alterations between AP patients and healthy controls.
