Sample Properties, Evaporation Data, and Pressure Measurements of MgSO4 Crusts on F32 Quartz Sand From 0.96 mol/L, 0.64 mol/L, and 0.32 mol/L Initial Concentration

DOI

The dataset contains data from evaporation of magnesium sulfate solution with an initial concentration of 0.96 mol/L, 0.64 mol/L, and 0.32 mol/L from F32 quartz sand. Additionally, pressure measurement of the separated and dried crusts from 40%, 30%, and 20(25)% saturation inside of the sample are provided using dry nitrogen gas (dynamic viscosity 0.0176 mPas at 20°C, flow rates 0 mL/min, 100 mL/min, 200 mL/min, 300 mL/min). A linear regression on the measured pressure difference was performed with MATLAB and the corresponding intrinsic crust permeability was calculated using the obtained pressure difference and the crust thickness that was determined from XRCT data for each crust (see related data sets). Each excel file has six sheets:

Sample properties (i.e. dimensions, effective properties, weight,...) Evaporation (i.e. mass loss of each sample determined over time, temperature, relative humidity) Mass loss (calculated for each sample from evaporation data, final saturation/water content) Evaporation rate (calculated for each sample from mass loss, time) Water balance (sample properties after evaporation, properties of separated crust, water content of crust and removed sand) Plots (plots of cumulative mass loss, evaporation rate, and ambient conditions).

The sand used is F32 quartz sand from Quarzwerke Frechen with a mean grain size of 240 µm (see related publication for more details). The sample properties and the evaporation data are further provided as .CSV files, which represent the first and second sheet of the corresponding .XLSX file. The pressure measurements are provided as .CSV files for each crust.
