PRESLHY Experiment series E5.1 (Ignited Discharge) results – Benchmarking

DOI

In the frame of the PRESLHY project several ignited hydrogen blow-down experiments were made with the DisCha-facility at KIT. After some reference tests at ambient temperature, the hydrogen to be released was cooled down to cryogenic temperatures (approx. 80 K) using liquid nitrogen. The pressure in the 2.7 liter storage was varied from 0.5 to 20 MPa and the release nozzle from 1 to 4 mm. For identifying the ignition timing and location with strongest pressure and thermal effects, the ignition time after release initiation and the location close to the jet axis were varied widely. For open benchmarking of post experiment CFD simulations of the transient combustion processes the most relevant parameter setting was identified and the associated measurement data and a Powerpoint presentation with instructions on the use of the data are offered herewith.
