Holacanthus passer isolate:HPA_SJN_011703 Genome sequencing and assembly

The genus Holacanthus is an interesting model system for evolutionary studies because although it comprises of only seven species, it has undergone all three modes of divergence (i.e., allopatric, peripatric, sympatric). Moreover, the King angelfish, Holacanthus passer, is one of the most iconic fish species of the Tropical Eastern Pacific (TEP) and is known to hybridize with closely related species. The genome of H. passer will give further insight into the evolutionary mechanisms that drove the divergence of Holacanthus species and be used to study the evolutionary processes of introgression.
