We extend previous work on aggregates formed by cationic conjugated oligomers in water with surfactants and 1,4-bis(4¿-(N,N-bis(6´´-(N,N,N-trimethylammonium)hexyl)amino)-styryl)benzene tetraiodide (DSBNI), a model for poly(p-phenylene vinylene)s, and appear to form wormlike micellar species. Evidence for such structures was obtained from atomic force microscopy on surfaces, but detailed solution structures are missing. We aim to obtain these details by combining SANS, SAXS, multinuclear NMR data and DFT calculations to characterize both the structures and the factors responsible for their formation, alone and in the presence of surfactants. In a previous session in August 2010 we studied cationic (CTAB), neutral (C12E5) and anionic (SDS) surfactants using SANS, but were not able to study these in the presence of the conjugated oligomers. The experiments aim to complete this study.
