Plio-Pleistocene alkenone sea surface temperature and productivity at eastern equatorial Pacific IODP Site 321-U1338

DOI

Alkenone biomarker unsaturation estimates (Uk'37) of sea surface temperature (SST) and alkenone concentration and mass accumulation rate (C37total) data are obtained for eastern equatorial Pacific (EEP) Integrated Ocean Drilling Program Site 321-U1338. Newly acquired alkenone biomarker data were generated at Brown University according to sample preparation and analytical methods described in Herbert et al. (2021). The SST and productivity data are sampled at 3-kyr resolution and span four time intervals in the Plio-Pleistocene: a Pliocene interval (3.0-3.6 Ma), a Plio-Pleistocene interval (2.4-2.8 Ma), a mid-Pleistocene interval (1.4-1.7 Ma), and a Late Pleistocene interval (350-650 ka). Gradients in SST and productivity between the two EEP sites can be tracked over the four time intervals listed above.
