The research on energy storage devices such as lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) is vital for electric vehicles (EVs), electronic devices and grid-scale energy storage. According to the recent reports by market research firms, IHS Isuppli, Transparency Market Research and Taiyou Research, the global market for lithium-ion batteries alone is expected to expand to $53.7 billion a year by 2020. The surge in production of EVs by car industry including Tesla, Nissan and General Motors, makes significant contribution to such high demanding. The anode materials, silicon nanoparticles encapsulated in TiO2 hollow structure, have been synthesized in our lab. Here we propose to investigate the diffusion kinetics of lithium ions in our unique high capacity anode materials.
