Microbial community of sediments at JaichMaa Ja'ag' hydrothermal vent field in Pescadero Basin, Gulf of California

The JaichMaa ja'ag' hydrothermal vent field is located at 3700m depth in Pescadero Basin, at the mouth of the Gulf of California. JaichMaa ja'ag' is a sediment hosted hydrothermal vent field approximately 2km from the Auka vent field, and shares many characteristics with the more well-studied vents at Guaymas Basin, 400 km to the northeast. Analysis of the sediment microbial community at JaichMaa ja'ag' in comparison with vent fields of Auka and Guaymas Basin provides insight in the factors shaping microbial community structure at sediments hosted hydrothermal vents.
