Brain slices from the hooded seal were taken from layer V of the visual cortex of the brain of the hooded seal. After equilibration hypoxia was induced by floating the slices with N2 for 1 h. Subsequently, the slices were reoxygenated for 20 min. Three different samples (with n=3 for each) were taken control slices that had been kept for 110 min at normoxia. From each sample, the mRNA was extracted and submitted to Illumina paired-end sequencing. Additionally an untreated cortical sample of the hooded seal was used for RNA extraction and submitted to Illumina paired-end sequencing.
