Data: We use the German Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP) for the post-reunification period 1992 to 2013, which is distributed by the German Institute for Economic Research, DIW Berlin. The SOEP is a representative longitudinal survey of private households and comprises household as well as individual information such as household composition, labor market participation, income, education, health, and satisfaction levels.
