These data form part of the research output of a study on Gender and the Effects of Structural Adjustment in Rural India : a case study in Andhra Pradesh. The data are at the household unit of analysis. A related qualitative dataset sheds more light on gender and patriarchy than do these data. The data are aimed at making possible estimates of differential vulnerability to cuts in government subsidies. Full details of crops sown and harvested are given, along with all loans taken or outstanding (both bank and non-bank loans); records of tenancy and rent paid or received; estimates of labour by each person including children over a one-year period; and records of ration card ownership and actual uptake of rice, sugar and kerosene.
Main Topics:
The data cover the assets held; the people in each household; the land owned and operated; irrigation; the crops sown; crops harvested; loans taken to buy assets; loans for various production and consumption purposes; and interlinkage of debt with labour and tenancy. One file contains a set of derived variables for each household, suitable for logit modelling and other regression techniques. Another file, with one case per loan, has details of interest rates and all other terms and conditions of loans.
