Data from a randomized clinical trial aimed at evaluating the impact on participation of an additional FIT completion/return reminder delivered by text message to individuals who picked up but did not return their screening kit at pharmacy within 14 days in the colorectal screening program of the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona.
Setting: pharmacy-based screening program for colorectal cancer program in Catalonia, Spain.
Study population: 9,369 individuals aged 50-69 years invited to screening who picked up a FIT kit but did not return it within 14 days. Randomization into 2 groups: (1) Intervention (n=4,563): SMS reminder (on day 14 after picking it) + Reminder letter (if they had not completed the FIT 30 days after picking it up); (2) Control (n=4,806): Reminder letter (if they had not completed the FIT kit 30 days after picking it)
Main primary outcome: FIT completion rate within 30, 60, and 126 days from FIT kit pick-up (intention-to-treat-analysis).
Baseline variables included were sex, age group and tertiles of deprivation score index (DS), based on the individual's Catalan primary healthcare referral area.
