Muon response to changes in the charge distribution of the components of a complex dielectric under applied external electric field

DOI

We plan to confirm that the change in asymmetry on resonance in the ALC spectra seen in the subject complex dielectric during the previous rapid access proposal (RB1900028) is a result of the change in the hyperfine coupling resulting from the the displacement of electrons under the influence of an externally applied electric field. We also plan to establish if the magnitude of the shift seen in the asymmetry is dependent on the magnitude of the field applied. Additionally we will perform characterization of the constituents at resonance to firstly establish the location of the charges and also to help pinpoint the apparent missing fraction seen in the repolarization curve in the previous proposal. Lastly the response of composite samples will be examined before and after ex - situ ageing to determine the effect of said ageing on the locations and magnitudes of charges within the sample.
