uncultured marine prokaryotes Targeted loci environmental

We examined the natural variability of prokaryotic communities associating with the surface mucus layer of Porites astreoides, a coral species exhibiting cyclical mucus aging and shedding. We concluded that the microbiome of coral surface mucus has a key role in mediating holobiont health and survival upon disturbance.
