Lepisosteus oculatus (spotted gar) genome, fLepOcu1, sequence data

The spotted gar (Lepisosteus oculatus) is a freshwater fish native to North America. Its current range is from southern Ontario to the west from the Devils River in Texas east to the northern coast of the Gulf of Mexico and southeast to the lower Apalachicola River in Florida (from Wikipedia entry). This sample of a male individual found in Louisiana, United States was procured by Ingo Braasch and Allyse Ferrara to generate a high-quality reference genome data for the Vertebrate Genomes Project (VGP). Sequencing was conducted at the Vertebrate Genome Lab (VGL) at the Rockefeller University, led by Erich D. Jarvis, Giulio Formenti, and Jennifer Balacco.
