Search for magnetic correlations in Fe phosphide superconductors

DOI

We propose to use inelastic neutron scattering to search for the existence of spin fluctuations in two iron phosphide superconductors, LaFePO and Sr2ScFePO3. The objective is to compare and contrast the magnetic response of the iron phosphide superconductors with that of the more widely-studied iron arsenide superconductors. A particular goal is to see whether there is a superconductivity-induced resonance peak which could support the hypothesis of a common mechanism of superconductivity in the phosphides and arsenides. Measurements will be made on powdered samples of the two compounds since single crystals are not available. This experiment is a continuation of an experiment we were previously granted time for on MARI; we were unable to measure magnetic fluctuations due to the limitations of that instrument.
